So I had a pretty good day hanging out with my better half and her family. Got back home and decided to relax with a little Jalopnik. I got to reading the FP and being a #twowheelsbad guy myself, decided to click on the motorcycle story. Big mistake. The anti-bike comments are beyond stupid. Like, I want to reach through my screen and choke people stupid.

So instead of relaxing my blood pressure is through the roof. Ugh.

Here, have some #twowheelsawesome for your time. It's a Honda NR750 hanging out like a boss, and a mockup of it's incredibly awesome oval piston 32 valve, 8 connecting rod V4. It was supposed to be a V8 but FIA rewrote the rules to ban V8s mid development, so Honda essentially cut out the cylinder walls to make a V4. Oh, to be alive in back in teh days when Honda innovated:

this is why I avoid all of the comments on the FP of bike posts. just pisses me off.

which is funny considering i've had a couple of bike posts on the FP and i think only ONE got any negativity at all. maybe 2. it was....WEIRD.

Honda: Well, our compact bike V8 is almost done and-
FIA: No V8s.

Honda: What?!
FIA: You heard me. No V8s. Dems da rules.

* A bit later*

Honda: Here. We're done.
FIA: What? That...that's not-

Honda: What? No V8s. This isn't a V8.
FIA: I see 8 connecting rods...
Honda: And 4 pistons. V4. Not a V8.
FIA: I...well...
Honda: You gonna let us in or what?
FIA: Ugh...fine. Here's your racing pass.
Honda: DAMN STRAIGHT MUAFUGGA

Absolutely. That thread is a victim-blaming heap of shit. Wonder if those commenters' heads would explode if the biker stood his ground and shot the driver in self defense.

Yeah, there's just a few people who are so obviously anti-bike, that were really stirring the shit. I really don't get that attitude. I know some bikers are asshats, but I don't get why that justifies treating bikers as evil sub-humans who deserve death.

Who knows, but there are definitely some people on there who could actually stand to benefit from an exploded head.

Though I have to say, I don't think drawing would have been the smartest move there... by nailing it and GTFO he preserved his life. But if he had been pinned and immobile, it would have definitely been a defensible option in my opinion. Maybe not the best one, but certainly understandable at that point.

Yeah, I really don't understand all the anti-bike rage that some people posses. I had 2 women try to get my friend and I arrested when we did literally nothing wrong, by making up a story saying that we were street racing and doing "stuntz."

I guess I've learned my lesson though. No more FP bike posts for me.

I got some hate just from sharing what I thought was a fairly neutral take on what was depicted. Then I got even more for advocating to actually avoid putting L.E.O.'s lives in danger by stopping in a dangerous position because it can often tip the odds of getting off with a warning in your favor...

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah. The whole thing is fucked up. I mean, assuming the biker did something wrong... and I'm guessing he did but I don't know, I've been the victim of that sort of thing (2 women falsified a call on a friend of mine and I and followed us to a gas station and an asshole cop showed up and detained us for over 30 minutes yelling at us). Still, thats probably the exception, not the norm.

Now I kind of get the cop pulling up next to him, because as a biker, I know it can be hard to hear sirens over the wind noise, and bike mirrors suck. I've heard of cops pulling up in the LANE next to the bike to make sure they catch their attention. But it would have to be in the whole next lane, that move was already way to aggressive. And trying to pin the guy, absolute asshole.

And the camera guy? Why was he following so close, and honking? That seems kind of sketch to me.

But I do get your point, that stretch of highway looks like it would be a very shitty place to pull over, especially on the right lane (which I've always been taught is an absolute no-no). And I also get not wanting to pull over for an odd model, unmarked car like that. I feel like the biker could have made the right choices, i.e. slowing down and moving to the right lane to pull over, or reducing speed to get off an off ramp to go to a public location (i.e. gas station) to stop he was suspicious of the cop being an impersonator. But the officer didn't even give him time to comply.

Ugh. It's all so stupid.

As of late I have been so consistanly disguisted by the comment section of thr FP that I've changed my homepages from Jalopnik and Speedhunters to Oppo and Speedhunters.

Kinja'd!!!

How does some dumb fuck whose name references misspelled breasts get 200+ stars from a post like this. I get not liking bikers for their sometimes poor conduct, just like some people hate luxury car drivers for their apparent lack of parking skills, but we're all here for the same reason right? No need to say the biker should be killed in cold blood for riding illegally. As Einstein is quoted as saying, "Only two things are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

If you want a good, light read, here's my story:

I was a new rider, and had a little Honda 250 Nighthawk I had been riding for a bit. My roommate had a Ninja 500 that had been in storage for a while, and an SV1000. So that night he decided to let me try the Ninja. As I mention, it had been in storage so it was running a bit rough. We decided to take a leisurely ride down some side streets to a local gas station to put some fresh gas in it.

So we're sitting at a light, it goes green, and the Ninja stalls. After 2 seconds these women just start blaring the horn and screaming at us, as I'm restarting the bike. Anyways, we get going, and they run right up our asses. My friend slows down to give space between them and me since I'm on the crappy bike and he's worried it might stall. They try to pass him on a double yellow, in a 30mph residential area. He speeds up to stay between them and me, and they are swerving all over trying to get around him. Thankfully we get to the service station, and he flips them the bird and we turn in.

Well they pull in to a shopping center across the street and call the cops. First cop comes in a Durango, gets out and confronts us. He's very calm and says "Hey, guys, I got a report that 2 guys on motorcycles matching your descriptions were out racing down the street, doing wheelies, etc. Care to tell me whats going on?" And we said "Oh, was it those 2 women that called it in?" and point to them. The proceeded to tell him what happened. And I explained I was a new rider, showed him I still had my permit, and my military ID, that I was still learning and trying to be responsible, etc. He stayed pretty neutral but seemed to be appeased by our story, so he told us to ride safe, got in his car, and left.

We go in and pay for the gas, and come out and just as we're about to leave a cop in a Crown Vic comes FLYING into the station, lights and sirens on, swerves in front of the pump lane we're at to block it off, jumps out of his car SCREAMING at us to put out hands up, get off the bikes etc. He proceeded to berate us for the next half hour that we were irresponsible hooligans putting people lives in danger, and he wasn't going to stand for it in *his* town, etc. So we told him our side of the story and pointed out the women in the car, still there watching. At some point he noticed our military IDs in our wallets. So he tells us to wait there, walks across the street, talks to them for a few minutes, then comes back and yells at us some more. He tells us "Well, I talked to the women over there. They've agreed not to press charges because I explained to them that I know the command motorcycle safety officer, hes a friend of mine, so I'm going to call him and tell him about your reckless behavior. He can get you in way more trouble than any citation I could write you, because unfortunately I can't arrest you tonight. But I'll make sure he sends you all up to captains mast (military court). You'll be restricted to base and have your pay docked and everything. The captain there doesn't take kindly to stupid punks like you doing dumb shit on sport bikes and making all the good members of the military look bad."

He then goes back across the street, talks to the women some more, then gets in his car and leaves. We see the women snicker and drive off. As we get on our bikes to go, the original cop rolls back up in his Durango, rolls his window down and goes "Uhh, sorry about that guys. That guy's an asshole, I have no idea what his problem is. Be safe." And with that, we all leave.

Wow, somehow I missed that comment, thank god. I might not have been able to contain myself. I know, don't feed the trolls and all that.

You know, I'm starting to think there needs to be a license to use the internet, and when you say asinine shit like that, the cops can roll up to your location and shoot you from their patrol car. THAT would put an end to stupid commenting.

Yeah, same here. When I initially saw the car by the bike I thought "been there, I bet he didn't hear or see him" because I've been there (I wrote ther story over there) but fortunately, the cop turned-out to be pretty cool and it was a good experience. But then again, on the Internet everyone is an expert and anyone who doesn't fit your narrow paradigm is a liar and must be mocked.

I'm currently fighting the urge to feed a troll with facts on earplug laws, or lack of them (in Florida) and the results of a study on helmet noise (as high as 115 dB). I know better, but it's so hard when I know the quantitative facts...

The problem is, facts don't mean anything to people. I actually read a really interesting article about how facts don't actually work. It focused on the anti-vaccine movement, and how there is no shred of credible evidence for their position, yet people won't give up on it. But the big take away was that peoples beliefs become something akin to a herd mentality. You pick a stance on a topic, surround yourself with other people who reinforce those beliefs, and it becomes part of your identity. These things become so ingrained that you literally cannot be bothered by silly little ol' facts.

So good luck.

I've read a lot of articles on how little facts matter to zealots as well. On the anti-vaxxers thing, Penn&Teller did an excellent episode of BULLSH!T on it. You can either catch it on Amazon Prime streaming (if you have that) or on YouTube.
